Star Wars’ Target Audience

Star Wars’ Target Audience

Two cultural observations that have repeatedly been made on this blog are that Star Wars has been weaponized against its original fans and that decadent Westerners are perverting normal pious sentiment by investing it in corporate pop culture products.

Now a viral video has surfaced that documents the unholy confluence of both phenomena. Watch only if you haven’t eaten recently.

Mock this video’s subject for bursting into tears at a cynical marketing tool if you want. I certainly won’t stop you. He’s reacting to watching a commercial as if he were watching the birth of his first child.

But before you mock, know that this is how Disney sees the male segment of their fandom. The weepy soiboi in the video, which may as well be the West’s epitaph, is Star Wars’ target audience.

If you still call yourself a Star Wars fan; even if you’re merely willing to pay to consume another Star Wars product, you can’t point the finger at this manlet without three pointing back at you.

Clown World: How do they keep making it more septic every time?

Conservative capitalists abandoned Hollywood to the Leftist propaganda mill long ago. Tinseltown is now one of the most prolific vectors of the poz.

If we’re to have a hope of retaking lost cultural ground, it’s imperative for dissenting sci-fi aficionados to stop funding their own demise, i.e. stop giving money to people who hate you.

Lest you doubt that they hate you, watch that video again. Take careful note of the visceral revulsion you feel at the nu-male’s blubbering, and understand that he is Disney’s image of you.

Trudging off to the theater might be understandable if Mouse Wars were the only game in town. But we’re in the midst of an indie science fiction boom the likes of which haven’t been seen since the golden age of the Pulps.

There’s simply no excuse for spending your finite time and money on Soy Wars instead of independent creators who share–or at least won’t desecrate–your moral vision of the world.

I get that the good stuff can be hard to find, especially with converged media and Big Tech actively throttling any artist to the right of Fidel Castro. Like panning for gold, finding unpozzed entertainment in the reign of the Mouse takes some work.

Luckily, I’m in a position to make it easy for you. Get my hit mecha space adventure Combat Frame XSeed now!

"Take careful note of the visceral revulsion you feel at the nu-male's blubbering…"

Indeed. The moment I saw this, before seeing any commentary, I felt a feeling akin to hatred. The people defending him are either lying to themselves about feeling the same or genuinely don't feel the same level of revulsion. I don't know which is worse.

Those people are called small-souled bug men.

  2. Chris Lopes

Sorry, I couldn't finish it. My first thought though is that perhaps he's never seen a girl before. 😉

    • Brian Niemeier

Word on the street is he's engaged.

    • Chris Lopes

These days that may not involve someone with 2 x chromosomes.

    • Brian Niemeier

      Or 2 chromosomes, period.

    • JD Cowan

My first thought was if his wife was where he said she went.

    • Brian Niemeier

      Jim's, too.

  3. Heian-kyo Dreams

There was nothing in that trailer to elicit such a reaction.

Unless of course, that NuMale has a Rei body pillow or something gross like that.

    • Brian Niemeier

A cottage industry has sprung up replacing the trailer in that video with other clips, to hilarious effect.

      It's the new Downfall.

    • Heian-kyo Dreams

Mr. Metokur played one where they used prison camp footage. That was super dank. After that I haven't gone looking, but if anyone posts a less depressing one I'll watch it.

    • JD Cowan

Jim is the only reason I got through that video.

I hung out with pretty hardcore geeks back in the day. None of them would ever do anything like this. I've never met anyone who would.

If you've never watched Mauler's (far too long) livestreams where he critiques videos he once ripped on one where a bugman made an argument on why plotholes didn't matter.

These people are losing their minds, and their souls.

    • Alex

JD, exactly. I was a hardcore geek back in the day, and we still had lives and lifted and chased girls and stuff. This is just…pathetic.

I mean, my six year old doesn’t even react to pop culture stuff like this.

"Conservative capitalists abandoned Hollywood to the Leftist propaganda mill long ago."
Sounds like another story of the archetypal absent father. The wails against the Patriarchy are targetted at a real weakness in our society, though anyone using that terminology propose fixs which only serve to exacerbate the issue.

Things will sort themselves out even without action on one's individual part. That is the way of things. But the individual must decide if he will be one of the sorted "out".

And my thanks for your daily thought pieces.

The Right builds institutions. Sadly, Conservative Liberals in Traditionalists Clothing hijacked the Right and bowed to the almighty dollar.

Peter Thiel co-founded PayPal, but he sold out to Silicon Valley Leftoids. Look where that led.

      And you are welcome.

    Brian,

I watched it without sound as it was a lunch break at work.
Disgust and incredulity at html the man's reaction were what I felt.

It's not normal and his whole demeanor is that of a little kid and it's super off putting

    • Brian Niemeier

Watch it with the sound on and try not to vomit.

    • Anonymous

      Brian,

Listened to it with the sound. From from voimiting, I was trying to restrain my hysterical laughter at his demeanour.
Listening to him he's a 21st century Bertie Wooster without the charm or Jeeves to steer him from folly.

Pop culture has become a religion to many. This guy is just acting accordingly.

    • Brian Niemeier

      *solemn nod*

    • JD Cowan

      Bazinga!

  7. Man of the Atom

How twisted a culture to build an ur-human like that.

I pity him and pray for his rapid release from this living horror. May he be delivered quickly from what is clearly a demonic possession.

    • Brian Niemeier

      Amen.

  8. JD Cowan

This is how an eight year old reacts to a trailer.

What an empty life he must lead if this is worthy of shedding tears. Clinging desperately to those fuzzy feelings and familiar names because there's nothing else waiting for him in the real world.

Prayer is about all we can offer for the poor fellow. If this is how a trailer affects him then what's coming in the next few years could kill the geek. It's too pathetic to offer scorn from me.

    • Brian Niemeier

Rich Evans in a Darth Vader mask humping an astromech looks sedate by comparison.

Parody is dead because parody involves blowing up real world events and real people's quirks to ridiculous extremes, but reality is now extreme beyond ridicule.

This is the one thing that The Time Machine got wrong. When the siren sounds, the Eloi will be crying with joy like this guy; "Oh boy! We get to be trapped underground and eaten!"

I don't know, I'm of two minds on this. Have equated it to the formula that the more intense the violence in movies are, the easier going things likely are in society; the more happy or uplifting, the more it's trying to counteract some very real turmoil or suffering at large.

Life could be too easy for people like this, to have gone from jarred goods in the basement and dirt floors, to crying over a stupid movie trailers. Or, it could be that newer generations are realizing on some deep fundamental level that long term plans based around life goals the Boomers enjoyed (and now expect of them) are becoming that much more difficult to accomplish, and so are habitually retreating to the easier things that make for an escape. Especially if they are in some way connected to a currently acceptable (read: blight washed) ode to the past.

Though that's probably the generational bias talking.

    • Josh Miller

(…Cellar. But you get the idea.)

    • Brian Niemeier

It's long been observed by horror film buffs that movies get gorier and smuttier during Republican administrations.

  10. Alex

I haven’t watched this yet. On one level, I feel bad for the guy. Will that change once I watch the clip?

    • Brian Niemeier

      Your pity should deepen,

  11. D.J. Schreffler

Why should I watch that video at all? I have wanted nothing to do with any new Star Wars content since I read your review of The Last Jedi.

I'm not sure I even want to see the Downfall-style memes.

    • Man of the Atom

      D.J. –
You should watch it and pray that this is as close as any of us will come to meeting Winston Smith after O'Brian has subjected him to Room 101.

Watch and see that this person is so desperate to give love, adoration, and worship to something or someone of worth, as Brian has indicated. Look what he offers that adoration to: a bit of hog slop that has the nutritional value of diluted leek broth.

Your pity for this shell of the man in the video, and your anger for the scum who have shaped him to be this way may both grow as you watch.

This is what our twisted elites want for us all: to say "2 + 2 = 5" and love them for making us say the lie.

  12. MegaBusterShepard

On the one hand I feel bad for him, on the other hand I feel sickened. I was that bad once…… Never Again!!

  13. wreckage

Guy's got a head like a smashed crab, apart from anything else.
